PH is P for Papier Labo, a company of paper enthusiasts, noted for their letterpress printing, and H for Hightide, stationery makers.
These notebooks are very sturdy indeed. They are thread-bound with a paper cover, but the cover is made of the same kind of paper that is used to stiffen shirt collars. It will not tear even if you try (with your fingers).
Inked on with a block of letterpress type as big as the notebooks themselves, the colours come out wonderfully irregular and faded in bits. The colours are mixed by the colourist at the press by hand, by trial and error. As you use the notebook, you will notice that it will change in flavour, fading and wearing, and will look all the better for it. I also particularly like the quality of the paper inside. It is grainy enough to soak up ink easily, but not enough to catch your pen, and durable but not too thick.
