Christian Louboutin Unveils a Luscious New Lipstick Line
Soon you’ll be able to wear Christian Louboutin’s signature red on your lips.
The luxury shoe designer has just unveiled a lipstick line inspired by Queen Nefertiti and the Art Deco movement, featuring 38 shades in three different textures: Silky Satin (comprised of 20 medium-to-full-coverage colors with a hint of shine); Sheer Voile (nine gossamer hues with a luminous glow); and Velvet Matte (nine rich and opaque pigments with a soft matte finish).
Each collection showcases its own take on the iconic Rouge Louboutin shade. While the signature colors will be housed in special black lacquered cases, the rest of the line will come packaged in gold.
Encased in lustrous cone-shaped vials, the bullets are topped with studded crowns, each outfitted with a tiny ring. Thread a thin ribbon or chain through the loop, and voila—the piece transforms into a stylish pendant. (Ergo, lipstick jewelry—the perfect blend of fashion and beauty.)
The lipsticks, which will hit Saks Fifth Avenue shelves in September, will retail for $90 apiece—nearly twice the price of Sisley’s Hydrating Long Lasting Lipstick and three times that of Dior’s Rouge Dior No. 999. As steep as it may seem, the figure doesn’t even come close to topping the cost of Guerlain’s KissKiss Gold and Diamond lipstick (cloaked in 110 grams of 18-karat gold studded with 119 diamonds, it boasts a $62,000 asking).
The lipstick launch isn’t Louboutin’s first foray into cosmetics. Last year the designer introduced an equally sumptuous spectrum of nail lacquer, which included three chief color palettes (The Nude, The Pops, and The Noirs), on top of a scarab-inspired trio—and of course, Rouge Louboutin.
